Committees

 

Projects and legislation are funneled through committees. Each Senator serves on one of five standing committees:

 

  1. Student Experience

  2. Student Services

  3. Academic Affairs

  4. Administration

  5. Finance

 

Senators may also serve on various ad hoc committees.

In addition, Class Cabinets exist with the purpose of programming and maintaining Richmond College traditions.

Purpose: 

Addresses student concerns related to the student experience such as diversity, campus culture, school spirit, and environmental sustainability. In order to address these concerns we work with the offices of Student Development and the RC Deans Office.

 

Members:

 

Goals 

  • Collaborate with RC Deans Office on making White Ribbon Campaign more educational and raise funds for Safe Harbor

  • Work with athletics and student development to assist in school spirit concerns

  • Provide a collaborative list of things to do before you graduate here at UR

  • Provide input directly to administration on student concerns

 

Completed Projects  

  • Established first annual ribbon run that took place on November 22nd, 2013

Services

Purpose: 

To solicit and address concerns pertaining to student services. Responsible for maintaining contact, initiating constructive dialogue, soliciting and/or bringing forth concerns to Dining and Auxiliary Services, Housing, Career Development Center, Parking Services, Facilities, Health Center, Recreation and Wellness, Information Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Chaplaincy, and the Center for Civic Engagement.

Goals 

  • Bring Food Trucks to Campus

 

 

Purpose: 

Seeks to address student concerns pertaining to academic life on campus. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining contact with Academic Deans, Faculty and staff as well as addressing concerns pertaining to the Academic Skills Center, Library Services, the Registrar and Academic Advising.

 

Members:

 

Goals 

  • Addressing Registration concerns

  • Improving and working closely with Library Services

  • Improving Summer school and programming

  • Investigating Lab Units for science majors

 

Completed Projects  

  • Held a successful focus group on summer programming with Dr. David Kitchen the Associate Dean of Strategic Planning and Summer Programs that looked at the needs and wants of students for summer school.

  • Proposed having more forms online from the registrar's office to ensure that students could have better access to them and ensure efficiency.

Academic
Affairs

Purpose: 

The Administration Committee is committed to two goals. The primary goal is to provide the RCSGA with proper internal regulation with an aim to cultivate a sense of community within the body. The second goal is to provide University of Richmond students with outlets to voice their concerns while simultaneously building the brand of the RCSGA.

  • Build the RCSGA brand throughout campus  

  • Increase transparency of the RCSGA to the student body

  • Provide effective outlets for students to voice their concerns about campus to the RCSGA

  • Partner with WCGA to promote unity and foster a stronger community between the two organizations

  • Cultivate a stronger internal body for the RCSGA

 

 

Completed Projects  

  • Revised the RCSGA Constitution to provide more transparency to the student body and modernize the RCSGA organization. Completed September 25th 

  • Coffee House with WCGA – Completed October 17th – Goals Accomplished: Increased RCSGA transparency, partnered with WCGA, and provided an outlet for student concerns.

  • Implementation of a Social Media strategy to cultivate a stronger student community, provide an outlet for student concerns, and to build the RCSGA brand. Ongoing  

 

Administration.

Purpose: 

Each year, the RCSGA’s Finance committee is responsible for allocating over $215,000 of funding to student organizations on campus. This funding provides student organizations with the resources to create engaging events for both students of the university and the Richmond community.

  • Establish clarity and transparency regarding SOBAC guidelines.

  • Ensure that all organizations follow through with their proposed budgets and uphold SOBAC guidelines.

  • Increase the amount of SOBAC funding available to student organizations.
